    1.
      Looking for: Hi Guys,

      Had my M3 Evo 2 258/500 targeted for burglary and many parts stripped.
      I require an OEM BOSCH 0261 200 090 ECU
      BMW Part No. 12 14 1 312 778

      I would prefer an OEM unit, but if anyone can write an EEPROM to EVO 2 Specs, this will do.

      Thanks....

    Hi,

    sorry to hear about this. I have a spare - the full number is covered up by sticky tape but I can see 0261 at the front, and 091 at the back, which according to this link http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/Engine_Management is a 215hp car ECU. (makes sense as my car I am told had an Evo 2 engine put into it before I bought it (am just in the process of finding the engine number so I can validate). Let me know if any good to you happy to send some pics. cheers

    Hi,

    It's close!! ;-)
    I need to confirm because according to the information out there, the Bosch 0261200091 ECU was fitted to the 215bhp Johnny Cecotto M3 variant that was introduced in between the EVO 2 & Sport Evolution variants.
    My car's engine is the 220bhp S1423.

    I am interested but need to speak with Munich Legends UK to confirm...the Bosch ECUs came in both 16 & 32 bit flavours.
    An engine number will greatly assist.
    Even if this prove's to be a 215 bhp from a Johnny Cecotto, there is the possibility your ECUs EEPROM can be written to with the EVO2 data.

    What are you asking for the unit?

    Kind regards,

    Hi, I still haven't got in the garage and pulled my engine number but will do it this week. Your thoughts on my engine make sense, as mine never had a white/mstriped cam cover so never really believed it was an evo 2 unit (not that the cam cover is the most verifiable of identification methods!).

    Not sure what it;s worth to be honest. Have you found one from a Bosch dealer would give me an idea of retail and we can work from there?

    thanks

    Hi,

    Once I have the engine number i can check to determine whether it's a 16 or 32 bit EEPROM. Hopefully, whichever flavour the ECU is, it can be remapped to the 090 ECU.

    As to price, the only M3 ECU I found was one from a standard (pre Evo2), M3 ending in 071. The seller offered it for $350; I declined because I was unaware this could have been remapped..I learned it was sold to a buyer in HK when I recontacted the seller.

    Can't locate any dealer advertising an 090 unit for sale. Guess my only hope of obtaining an OEM ECU is from a written off EVO2.

    Great!! Any sticker information on the ECU also would be helpful.
    Located a company in the UK who can remap the EEPROM to that of a 090; they asked the question; 'is it a 16 bit or 32 bit donor ECU?'
    Are you based in UK?

    Hi
    engine number is 60774872
    Let me know what you find out!

    I am based in the UK yes. Car was a german import that I was told had a later engine fitted, but I can't verify that so if you can help decode the engine number would be great.

    6 = S14
    077 = unique code
    4 = munich
    872 = date which is I think in Julien format but can't decode that. I guess it's 87 feb or something.

    cheers

    Hi,

    Thank you for the engine no.
    Are there any other markings on the ECU other than the BOSCH Part No. 0261 200 091?

    I wish to identify whether the ECU is a 16 or 32 bit version.

    Hi Christos, will come back to you this evening. It does have this part number on the ECU:-
    1315263

    I'll grab some pics later today when back home and share asap

    cheers

    Hi Piers,

    My man at Schniedermann suggests you remove the cover and the version should be printed on the chip.

    He also confirms your suspicion; the engine was built in February -87..which is confusing because the 215bhp versions (091 ECU), came out after the Evo 2 version (ECU 090), which was built upto June 88.
    The final Evo version, The 'Sport Evo', came out in 89 and its ECU was 092

    OK I will get some pics tonight sorry took some time. I read up also on my engine, and actually the numbers below the serial number are more important. They are 234S2 on my engine which according to what I found below means this is a later 215HP engine which would sit well with the ECU number too:-

    http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=40649

    Pinched the following two quotes from a previous thread to save you searching:

    Source = BMG M3

    Remember that the engines can be grouped by the engine code ( stampped below the engine number on the block )which will show it as either an early 195 bhp engine, or the late 215 bhp engine with the more desireable late spec cylinder head,cams and TB's. Special editions had different codesand specs,but the basic 2.3's can be split this way.

    Source = Andyclient

    Engine codes are

    234EA 195BHP

    234S2 215BHP

    245S1 2.5l

    Just pulled my old camshafts from the shed. One has C letter, one has B letter, which from what I have read is 264/248 combination from an EVO 2 engine.

    cheers

    Hi Piers,
    Thanks for the ECU photos; it almost certainly is an 091 unit.
    From the numbers on the label i found this
    https://ecu.eu/bmw/engine-control-unit-(dme)/ml3.x/bmw-1315263-bosch-0261200091-104425.html

    I forwarded the images you provided to the guy who can remap the EEPROM in the hope he can determine if this is a 16 or 32 bit ECU.

    What are you asking for the ECU?
    I'm intrigued with your cams???

    Hi Christos,

    no clue on price for the ECU or the cams - maybe we can do a deal on all three items!

    I'll do some research this afternoon and come up with a price.

    thanks
