1990 E30 M3 2.3 in "Brilliant Red" imported to the UK by the Independent Motor Company from Germany in 1998. I am the second UK owner, having purchased the car in October 2003.
Over the past five years it has been gradually upgraded to become a very competent road and track day car.
Up to now the vehicle has been maintained by Hartlake Specialist Cars and more recently by Bexley Motor Works, who carried out most of the upgrades, including the engine work. A comprehensive history folder accompanies the car.
The timing chain and sprockets have been replaced, and the chain tensioner has been upgraded to the E36 M3 model.
During the winter of 2006/2007 the top end of the engine had a complete rebuild. The cylinder head was ported/polished and the camshafts were replaced with Schrick 276/284 items. At the same time the bottom end was inspected and compression tested and was found to be fine. The car has done only 5000 miles since then.
A DTM spec carbon airbox was fitted, along with an Alpha-N engine management system. This was remapped and the car now produces a reliable 230 bhp, with more torque throughout the range.
Also during winter 2007, Racing Developments built and fitted a custom-made rear half roll cage. The rear seats have been removed and the area professionally boarded and retrimmed with black carpet.
During summer 2008, the scuttle panel was replaced along with the windscreen. The plastic sill covers were removed and the car was checked for rust.
The spec is as follows:
DTM spec Carbon Airbox
Shrick 276/284 Camshafts
Alpha N Engine Management
Head Rebuilt, ported and polished
Evo Sport Valve Springs
Rolling Road tested at approx 233 bhp
Compomotive MO Wheels
Ferrodo DS2500 Brake Pads
Leda Adjustable Coilovers (550lb front and 225 lbs rear springs)
Rose-jointed top mounts
Shortshift gear lever
Recaro Pole Position Bucket Seats
Momo Racing Steering Wheel
Sport Evo Gear Knob
Racing Developments Bespoke Rear Roll Cage
Sparco Three-Point Harnesses
Supersprint Exhaust
Finned Differential Cover
Evo II Front Spoiler
Evo Sport Brake Ducts
The car has covered approx 144,000 miles, however so many parts have been upgraded or replaced, that there are not many left that have covered that distance.
