Description: We are looking at producing a batch of BBS style Sport Evo Centrelock wheels in Aluminium to Motorsport standards. This style of wheel is NLA from BMW.
The new manufacturer is a well known Motorsport wheel manufacturer with vast experience in the industry
Size: 18" x 9J
Weight: approx 11.5kg
Material: Cast Aluminium ALSi 12 MGSR
The differences to the original wheels are as follows:
Spoke depth approx 35mm instead of 40mm
Spokes have increased draft angle to allow removal from the die.
Some details cannot be reproduced - for instance the small indent with BBS will have 3 other letters...
The indent with the date can be made with an old date ie 12/90 or with the new manufacturing date - feedback appreciated on this.
The photos with 2 images shows the new wheel in silver and the original wheel in white. We are trying to get them as close to the originals as possible but there will be subtle differences due to the different manufacturing technique and ensuring copyright issues are covered. The 6 off holes with threaded inserts will also be incorporated on the front face and the surface finish will also be perfected for authenticity.
Estimated price for a set of 4: £2040 inc VAT.
Edit: There will also be a 5 x 120 option with offsets available from ET27 to ET71. Price to be confirmed. Images will follow soon.

Posts: 41Comment Date: Thu May 19, 2011 I too am glad that someone has run with this idea, and I don't want to come across too negative. But unfortunately, 25+ pounds per wheel is not raceable for me. Even going from 17,5 to 22 lbs showed a very noticeable decrease in acceleration.
Are there no other option for the production? Eddy's Apex wheels (flow formed) I think hit the scales at less than 20pounds, and there's got to be others that use the same process. I hope so, 'cause I would love to stock up on this wheel at a lighter weight...Profile Rocket M3

Posts: 244Comment Date: Thu May 19, 2011 Thanks for the feedback. There are plenty of manufacturers that can flow form but it comes down to cost and minimum quantity orders. For this project the minimum quantity is 60 wheels (15 sets). Do you know a manufacturer that can provide a low minimum quantity and that can also split the batch into 5 x 120 and centrelock? We also prefer to have these made in Europe so we can work closely on the product with regard to the fine details such as surface finish and so forth. Profile Rocket M3

Posts: 244Comment Date: Thu May 19, 2011 For info the Magnesium forged OE wheel weighs 9kg (20lbs) so an Aluminium version of this wheel is always going to be more than 20 lbs... Profile Rocket M3

Posts: 244Comment Date: Mon June 6, 2011 To get a real idea of requirements, if you are genuinely interested please add your name to the list below and include whether you require Centrelock or 5 x 120 PCD. We are still waiting on images and weight for the 17" MS wheel - sorry for the delay.
If you have added you name on S14.net then please don't add it here. Cheers.

Posts: 244Comment Date: Mon June 13, 2011 At last here are the details of the 17" x 8" wheel.
This been designed 5 x 120 PCD only which means the weight can be reduced as the extra material needed around the centre for centrelock option is not needed.
Weight 21lbs (9.5kg)
Offset ET27 - can be adjusted if required.
Have to say very pleased at how good this wheel looks in 17".
Updated list below:
18" x 9" MS wheel
1) julien one set 5 x 120
2) RM x 1 set
3)Eric (either one, whichever is easier for you)
4)Mpower238 2 set centerlock
