Description: My good friend Kev Moore, aka Barefoot, has decided to sell on his showroom conditioned track focused E30 M3. This car was bought from Tom Houltbrook in a semi track focused. During a track day the existing engine gave way. Kev had 2 options, a rebuild of the standard engine or to go for the MS 2.5 engine. A MS had recently become available from another E30 M3 owner. Kev bought this engine, along with an uprated diff and one off custom exhaust designed especially to maximise the power of the engine.
A link to some pics and details off Pistonheads.com is Kev’s post (barefoot) is halfway down page 5 http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=719161&mid=754&i=80&nmt=E30 M3 2.3 with a few extras&mid=754
The Shell and Structure
The car had a bolted in cage, but Kev decided an 8 point fully welded in cage would provide better structure. The car went in for a complete strip and rebuild.
The roof was replaced with a non sunroof panel.
The shell was returned to bare metal and the only area of rust was a tiny patch on the scuttle, which was replaced. The rest of the car was rust free and comparable with a new shell from BMW. The car was seam welded and the cage was then added using T45 tubing. The car was then taken to a local paint shop to be painted. The cage is now red, with the rest of the car painted in white. A Vauxhall colour was used as it was the brightest white.
The company chosen to paint the car carry out work for the well renowned sellers WLN Automotive, who sell some of the best E30 cars in the UK. The underside of the cars paint is as good as the body. The obligatory ‘M’ strips were painted and not vinyl.
The bumpers are both Fibreglass.
The Engine
The engine spec was chosen to provide torque over outright horse power. Adrian discussed with John at length of the right spec. Arrow rods and JE piston of MS spec was used. Grp A spec head with SD7 top end with MS cams and I think they were 292 and 308. Maxx Alpha N is used to map the engine. It was mapped and tuned for the Nurbergring and produced 300 bhp, though this was detuned from the 320 bhp that this engine can produce. The engine was mapped by a highly regarded engine tuner near Manchester and was extremely impressed with the power of this engine.
Exhaust
A one off custom exhaust designed by an exhaust specialist to extract the most power from the engine
Diff
The diff is of a lower ration and was imported from the States to a higher spec, but we are unsure of the spec. It has the larger M coupe cooling diff cover
Fuel Cell
A fuel cell has been made for the spare wheel well. It has 2 feed lines, with one return. There are no pumps or filters with this car. The fuel cell has an internal collection pot at the rear with 1 way flaps and slopping base to direct fuel into picks under acceleration
Brakes
Rear brakes are standard but in the sale are 2 bells to mount AP discs, Porsche 4 pot radial mounted calipers and adaptors (these adaptors require tapping for the calipers)
The front brakes are currently owned by Toby, but can be available in the sale, at an addition £1000. They comprise of Alcon Prodrive 4 pot calipers, bells with AP 325mm discs. A standard brake set up would be fitted if the front set up was not suitable. These 4 pots brakes fit under 16” BBS RS rims and have only been on the car for 5 laps of the Nurbergring, so virtually new.
Wheels
BBS RS staggered set of 16x8 and 16x9. Polished rims, with black centres. R compound tyres.
Suspension
Leda, spec unknown as this was on the car when purchased from Tom.
Interior
CF Dashboard, mounted
CF Door cards mounted
CF rear cards mounted
CF rear shelf mounted
Short shift gear lever fitted
Porsche GT3 leather sports seats fitted
This car is about 80% complete. Kev has lost interest in the project and this is mainly due to a serious Jet Ski accident a year ago.
What’s left to finish
Fit the front and rear screens – included in the sale
Wiring harness part fitted
Fit CF Airbox
Fit dashboard ancillaries like the instrument cluster etc.
Finish fuel system
Fit harnesses
There may be the odd part I have missed.
There is a huge photo file of the car during the process of this build.
Although this car is incomplete the sum of parts and cost to get the car to this level is in excess of £30k. He is looking for an offer over £25k.Keywords: Track Focused E30 M3 2.5 300 bhp Grp A
